Accessible via the quest notifier on the left hand side of the screen, the quest [Threads of Fate] Unraveling the Threads of Fate will open a UI with 10 different characters encountered throughout Mushroom Shrine Tales. Only 6 of these characters will be initially unlocked to be interacted with from the lower left panel, or used in the lower right panel to unlock bonus stats for the Wings of Fate. The 4 locked characters may be unlocked by completion of their quests, requiring 50 closeness achieved with relevant characters.

Closeness for each character can be viewed from the interaction panel. Each week closeness with all characters will decrease by 10. Closeness can be increased in 3 different ways. At 0 closeness or above the 'Gift' and 'Talk' options are available. 'Gift' allows you to increase closeness with a character by 3 seven times at week by giving them an item of their interest. 'Talk' allows you to, before reaching 50 closeness with a character, increase your closeness with them by up to 2 each 30 minutes.

Defeating Tengu can increase your closeness with one character by 3, with up to 5 runs per day. The Yakuza Boss will also drop Threads of Fate, which can increase your closeness with one character by 7, up to 1 run per day.

After reaching 50 closeness with a character you may 'Ask' them to run an errand for you. After 30 minutes, you may turn the quest in from the quest notifier. Each character will then reward you with mesos or food or other items and 1 closeness. Be cautious to avoid entering instanced content or changing channels as that will change any item rewards into meso rewards. Additionally, letting an Ask roll over into the next day and claiming the rewards will consume all remaining Asks for the current day.

After reaching 70 closeness with a character you may 'Summon' them, activating a special skill, attack or ability specific to that character.

A character icon within the Threads of Fate panel can be double clicked to add them to the bonus stat panel and double clicked again to remove them. A combination of 3 characters will generate a specific line of bonus potential that will be added to the Wings of Fate. The magnitude of the potential is determined by one's closeness with the 3 contributing characters, with all 3 characters at 100 closeness being necessary to achieve its maximum value.
